Everybody Brave Is Forgiven
by Chris Cleave

View in Library Catalog

This story takes place in England during World War I. The story follows two main characters who are brought together by chance. The tale is brutal but also amazingly dazzling, told with biting wit and gut-wretching accounts of wartime London and Malta. The pace is perfect. I hardly wanted to put the book down. The characters are full and so very realistic. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves historical fiction.

At Close Range
by Laura Griffin

Laura Griffin is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books have the perfect blend of mystery and romance. This story takes place in Texas, where Detective Daniele Harper must discover the culprit behind four murders of local university staff. Things are complicated enough with all of the uncertainties and clues piling up in this case, but throw in a secret love interest- Scott Black, and things get even more complicated. As they work together to solve the case, they fall deeper and deeper in love. But even though there is quite a bit of romance involved, again, it isn’t overwhelming, in my opinion. The mystery itself is enough by itself even without the added romance. However, it is not a complex mystery (compared to writing from James Patterson), in my opinion, but it is still a good story, especially if you’re not looking for anything too alarming or bloodcurdling.
